Hi,

I have recently moved to Hanoi and I am wondering if there is here a dealer, a collector's shop to buy stamp albums and in general accesorries related to stamp collecting and of course stamps.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi,

I only know three places in Hanoi:

- Vietnam Stamps Company, 14 Tran Hung Dao St. You can go there on every weekday, from 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM to buy stamp album and stamps (especially Vietnam stamps)

- 160 Trieu Viet Vuong St., every Sunday morning. There is a group of philatelist to buy and sell stamps there.

- The last option is Hanoi Post, 75 Dinh Tien Hoang St.

Hope this answer can help you.

Thank you for the reply.

I thought so, there aren't many options here in Hanoi. I visited a few days ago Vietnam Stamps company at Tran Hung Dao str. but I didn't see any albums/stockbooks. I will go to check again. But as you say when it comes to Vietnamese stamps they seem to have almost everything.

I have this dream now to build a vietnam country collection so do you think my only source for material would be only these 3 places? It doesn't look so promising...

Thank you

Trieu Viet Vuong is a better choice for you. You can meet many collectors there so you can find other sources from them.
But, in my opinion, Hochiminh city is the best place to visit if you really want to enlarge your Vietnamese stamps collection.

Hi Yiannis,

You can find display pages and binders in Vietnam Stamps company at Tran Hung Dao St. but you need to ask the seller.

You also may find some stamp albums in the shop at the entrance to Hanoi Post at 75 Dinh Tien Hoang St.

Hope that you will not meet any difficulty in language.

As Nguoitimduong said, those places are basic locations where you can meet and make friends with many collectors in order to buy, sell or exchange your stamps.

A part from that, you can find some members who own Vietnam stamp collection here in this forum.

Thank you Nguoitimduong , Hoang.Le
Very helpful. Yes, the language is always a problem but I will find my way.
When I went last week to the Vietnam Stamp company at Tran Hung Dao I managed to buy the stamp catalog for 1945-2005 and also to write down their prices per year. It took me a few minutes but I had no other option since they didn't allow me to make a fotocopy of their pricelist. I have also the Scott catalog for Vietnam in pdf so I have enough references for now.
The way things work here is totally new to me. In other countries the stamp issuing authorities destroy the unsold stamps after a year or so (except of the definitive sets that they sell until last one) so there is no other way to find old sets than from dealers or other collectors, ebay etc. Here if I have understood correctly they started doing this only with the sets issued after 2000.
So what I am trying to say is, do you think that private sellers could beat the prices of the VSC when they sell? I suppose they could do that only if they have bought some quantities at the face value when each set was issued. Or of course if they just want to kill their collections! Am I missing something or it's more or less like that?

Best regards,
Yiannis

Hi again,

So, I am interested to buy complete years of DRV and SRV stampsets. I need one set from each issue just for my personal collection.
If any members (preferably in Hanoi) have complete years to spare (anything from 1945 to 2005) please send me your asking prices with a PM or email.

Thank you!
Yiannis
